This 1920s craftsman in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood offered arts-and-crafts elegance, but lacked a master suite. To create a private retreat without losing the home’s intimate scale, the owners added a two-story addition to the back of the home and converted part of the attic into a master bath.
The new space blends period charm with modern comfort: salvaged hardwood floors, beadboard wainscoting, a clawfoot tub with Carrera marble vanity, and polished nickel fixtures evoke the home’s heritage. A frameless shower with subway tile and Ann Sacks penny rounds adds contemporary ease. The addition also included an expanded primary bedroom and lower family room. Despite structural challenges, the homeowner’s meticulous research and detailed specifications guided a custom build that stayed true to the era, and the budget.
