Medina Heights Kitchen

To bring farmhouse charm and functionality to their dark, narrow kitchen at the rear of their Cape Cod–style home, the owners added a 14’3” bump-out on the eastern wall, gaining 60 square feet and four feet of width. A beam and wrapped pillar replaced the original wall, allowing new cabinetry to define the kitchen from the eating nook. Custom cream cabinets with added height replaced the original blue ones, contrasting beautifully with dark soapstone countertops and a matching farm-style sink. A SubZero fridge was paneled to blend in, and buff-colored tile with soapstone accents tied the look together. A freestanding glassware cabinet with antique armoire styling replaced a lone blue cabinet, while recessed lighting and a phone desk nook completed the transformation. The result is a warm, spacious kitchen that honors the home’s character with a blend of painted and natural finishes.
